Zola and Scram (and the rest of the crew) are rudely awoken by a flock of attacking harpies, bird-like women singing a hypnotic tune that lures sailors to their watery death. Once on deck, both heroes (and Quince) quickly fall under the song’s spell (forcing the DM to play as NPC’s for a couple of rounds. You’re welcome, DM!).

As Captain Styx fends off the beasts with her whirling sword, Scram shakes off the birdies’ enchantment and climbs the rigging to get a better vantage point of the battle. Seeing the crew in dire straights, Scram pulls out the wild Shard, activating it and becoming embued with a powerful version of the Haste spell— shielding him from his enemies, and doubling his movements and actions. Scram Thunderwaves the flock of approaching harpies (while Zola grooves below to the intoxicating melodies). Quince, still hypnotized, is snatched up by a harpie near the edge of the ship and carried away into the air.

Captain Styx, preoccupied with battling her own birds, sends a zesty wink (aka Bardic Inspiration) towards Zola, which with Stilton’s bites, helps her break from her daze and burst back onto the battlefield. Zola runs to help out Captain Styx, bringing her mighty greatsword down on a harpy she’s fighting, but is surprised when her sword bursts into green flame, decapitating and cauterizing her prey!

Scram, Hasted, uses his vantage point from the crow’s nest to shoot harpies down from the sky with his Burning Hands and Firebolts, charring their feathers and sending them smoking into the sea. Quince is dropped back off on deck, thanks to a timely Suggestion spell from Captain Styx, and after a flurry of spells and attacks, the harpies scatter into the sky.

After a headcount and a little healing, Captain Styx reveals her first name to Scram and Zola: Fiddle. Hopped up on Haste spell, Scram is unable to rest, even with another Suggestion spell from Captain Styx. Zola quickly checks that their supplies (mainly the lockbox stolen from Brizalla’s tower) have not been moved from where they were stashed in one of Dare Boucher’s crates of salami, then takes Scram up to get air on the main deck. There, they see Captain Styx and drow sailor-by-night, Cicirose speaking by the bow. Captain Styx offers Scram her further help, but Scram declines, saying he only has post-battle jitters. Zola helps Scram dance off his extra energy (entertaining Cicirose) before she passes out on the deck. Scram remains awake, still restless…
